Dwain Elder brings a unique mix of education and experience to the Chorba Contracting skill base. More importantly, he brings a passion for construction projects of all scopes and sizes. He also has a heart for ministry and views his role as a certified NACDB church consultant as a ministry to growing churches.
After his graduation from the University of Alabama with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, he worked briefly in the private sector—but moved on to a 30+ year career as a civilian employee. During those years, he first worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority as a project engineer for Bellefonte Nuclear Power Plant; he then worked for the U.S. Army as a Facilities Engineer on Redstone Arsenal. While there, Dwain progressively advanced in the Directorate of Public Works to serve as Deputy Director supervising more than 60 staff and overseeing the work of 800+ contractors who built and/or renovated facilities and performed grounds, building, and utilities maintenance.
As a life-long member of Guntersville First United Methodist Church, Dwain Elder has served on various committees and chaired most of them, including Trustees, Long Range Planning, Building Committees, Finance Committee, Council on Ministries etc. He has also held positions of responsibility in the community such as the City Planning Board and the Guntersville Water Board.
Dwain came on board as Chorba Contracting’s Marketing Director only a couple of years ago…but has dedicated much of his time to supporting the company’s commitment to the NACDB and its mission. He seeks to help churches one at a time, tailoring each project to the client’s specific needs. His goal is to help church leadership make critical growth decisions by serving as a resource for current information before, during, and after any building endeavor.
